The aim of our courses
With the exception of relatively advanced students, the usual path would aim at familiarisation with basic French Grammar and vocabulary in the first instance.
Then, although grammar would not be left to one side, the course would move relatively quickly towards the acquisition of modern French spoken phrases which may be used in a social context.
At the same time, an appropriate amount of time would be spent on listening comprehension in order to ensure that the student is exposed to modern day French as spoken by native speakers.
However, our principal preoccupation is with the needs of our clients and we would be able to build a specific course, at times to suit you, in virtually whatever circumstances you set down.
For example, it would be possible to put in place an intensive one or two week full time course should there be an urgent or specific need for a member of staff to achieve a basic level of French prior to a business trip to France or indeed for us to add, say, a legal vocabulary to the existing knowledge of a fluent French speaker within your company.
Teaching Methodology and Materials
Our teaching methodology and philosophy is to attempt to tailor the level and speed of our courses specifically to the need of the individual student, taking account principally of his or her personal aptitude and the use to which he or she intends to put his or her newly acquired language skills.
In regard to materials, appropriate text books corresponding to the profile of each student will be recommended after an initial appraisal during the first lesson and will thereafter need to be purchased directly by the student (most are available on Amazon or specialist web sites).
Study Goal - 40 hours/ 80 hours/ 120 hours
The progress of each individual will of course depend upon his or her aptitude for, and prior exposure to, the French Language and culture. However, as a very rough guide, it is suggested that after the first 40 hours a learner new to French should be able to be meet and greet people in social circumstances. After 80 hours, it should be possible for the new learner to survive in a social environment, ask directions, order drinks and meals. From 120 hours onwards, the learner would be considered to have attained an intermediate level and should be able to sustain a conversation, albeit still at a relatively basic level, with a native speaker of French in a social context.
Course fees
We generally aim to provide intensive one to one teaching; however we are able to offer lessons to groups of up to a maximum of three people.
Our courses are usually offered in tranches of 10 hours with a validity of two months ¨C however for beginners we offer a ˇ°starterˇ± tranche of 5 hours (valid for two weeks) which will enable the student to review his or her initial progress and to decide whether to continue to a higher level.
The cost of the starter tranche for an individual student is ˇę 275 (and this includes the travel of the teacher to your offices) and thereafter the cost is ˇę50 per hour with considerable savings to be made on tranches of over 30 hours which are booked and paid for in advance. We would be pleased to quote for a specific period and to put together a learning profile and progress measurement chart for a given student.
Please note that is a one-off registration fee of ˇę25 per student and that all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable after the first lesson. The lessons corresponding to the hours booked in each tranche must all be taken within the two-month period of validity. Lessons may be rescheduled up to 24 hours before the agreed date and time failing which they are chargeable (sorry).
